Junior Fire Department
For young people interested in the fire service, the Rockville Centre Junior Fire Department offers a place to learn, participate and become part of the traditions of RVCFD.
Intro
The Rockville Centre Junior Fire Department gives young people ages 13 and older an opportunity to experience the fire service, learn new skills and become involved in their community.
Junior members have their own officers, meetings, drills and activities while learning from members of the Rockville Centre Fire Department. The program introduces Juniors to the teamwork, responsibility and traditions that are an important part of volunteer fire service.
Junior members do not respond to emergency alarms and are not operational firefighters. Their activities take place in a supervised learning environment designed to introduce them to the fire service while preparing those who are interested for future membership.

Beyond the Firehouse
Being a Junior is about more than training. Members can take part in parades, fundraisers and other activities that connect them with RVCFD and the community.
From Junior Member to Firefighter
For many members, the Junior Fire Department is the beginning of a much longer relationship with the fire service. It provides an opportunity to learn about RVCFD, meet its members and experience the commitment and teamwork that come with serving the community.
At 18, those who are interested in continuing can explore membership in one of Rockville Centre’s seven fire companies. Junior membership does not automatically make someone a firefighter, but the experience can provide a strong foundation for taking that next step.
