Rockville Centre is protected by people who live here. If you're curious about serving, start with a conversation — not an application.

Every member of the Rockville Centre Fire Department is a volunteer. Some respond to fires. Some serve as Fire Medics on emergency calls. All of them train, and all of them live in the village or close to it. You don't need fire service experience, and you don't need to know which company or membership path is right for you before reaching out. A member of our recruitment team will help you understand your options and what comes next.

  • You don't need previous fire or EMS experience.
  • You don't need to know which company or membership path is right for you.

HOW IT WORKS

Getting started is simple.

  1. Start the conversation

Send the membership inquiry below, or visit any RVCFD firehouse on a Sunday morning. Either way, it commits you to nothing.

  2. Talk with our recruitment team

We'll answer your questions, learn how you'd like to serve and help connect you with the right company or membership path.

  3. Complete the membership process

You'll complete a department physical first, followed by the formal application and an interview.

  4. Membership approval

Your application goes through a company vote followed by department approval.

  5. Begin your training

Once approved, you'll begin a one-year probationary period that includes department training and required fire school.

TRAINING & COMMITMENT

We’ll prepare you to serve.

New members begin with an initial period of department training designed to build the fundamental skills needed for the fire service. This includes structured Sunday morning training and skills evaluations before progressing through probation. Probation lasts one year, and members must also complete required fire school at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy before coming off probation.

This is a real commitment. Members train regularly, take part in their company's activities, and turn out for alarms. Each of the seven companies keeps its own drill and meeting schedule, and you'll learn yours once you're matched with a company.

Nobody expects you to know whether that fits your life before you have spoken to us. That is what the conversation is for.

JUNIOR FIRE DEPARTMENT

A place to start.

Younger members can begin their fire service experience with the Rockville Centre Junior Fire Department. Juniors have their own officers, meetings, drills and activities, learn firefighting skills, take part in department life, attend parades and special training opportunities, and support their program through fundraisers. Juniors do not respond to alarms. For many RVCFD members, the Junior Department is where their journey in the fire service began.

A parent or guardian is part of the conversation from the beginning.
